Healing the Children

International Medical Organization

Healing the Children is a non-denominational volunteer organization of doctors, nurses and health workers who donate their time, money and energy to provide surgical services for children overseas.   Dr. Safran has served with them in Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Bolivia and Vietnam since 2006. The surgical missions last for a week and can operate on up to 125 children with crossed-eyes in one week.  

Dr. Safran received the Susan Tiger Memorial Award at their 2019 Gala in New Jersey this past May.   He was pleased to represent the Syracuse area and recognized the importance that having healthy and well-aligned eyes plays in the emotional lives of children and adults. The gala was attended by more than 200 people and raised over
