Dr. Marc Safran
A board certified ophthalmologist, Dr. Marc Safran graduated from Princeton University in 1980 and the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 1985. He completed ophthalmology residency at the University of Illinois in Chicago in 1989 with additional training in strabismus and pediatric eye disease. In 1995 he moved to the Syracuse area with his wife Mary Jumbelic, MD who served as the county's chief medical examiner. They have three grown children living locally.

Dr. Safran holds a well-respected position in Syracuse's medical and ophthalmic community, having maintained a successful solo practice since 1997. His emphasis is on treating all his patients in a professional, yet personal manner, seeing every patient himself at each visit. He performs small incision premium cataract surgery, eye muscle surgery and laser treatments for glaucoma. Dr. Safran was a past medical director of the Syracuse Specialty Surgery Center and was an active member of Healing the Children, a group that provided free eye surgery to children in South American countries for which he received the Susan Tiger Humanitarian Award from the organization in 2019.

Outside of work, Dr. Safran is an artistic studio photographer -- winning a variety of honors and awards -- at a studio he established in downtown Syracuse at the Delavan Center. His images are online at www.marcsafran.com and Instagram at @marcsafranphotography.
